2018 CJC Concours Update
Hello, all! The 2018 CJC Concours – affectionately known as “Head for the Mountains” – will be held in Little Switzerland at the Switzerland Inn (www.SwitzerlandInn.com) starting Thursday, July 12 through Sunday, July 15. Doing the math, this is only 144 days (or 20.5 weeks) from today!
Things for you to do NOW:
· Contact the Switzerland Inn at 800-654-4026 to either confirm your room pre-reservation from 2017, or begin a new registration. They may be closed for the season, but they’ll return your call if you leave a message.
o NOTE that the Inn fills up quickly, and there are not many other lodging options within a 10-mile radius.
· Plan to attend the March 17th CJC meeting, where Ed Howey will define for you the criteria used in the judging process. Even if you don’t show a car, the info is priceless!
· Send us an email (CarolinaJagMan@carolina.rr.com) with your thoughts:
o Should we offer a Thursday night casual “cook-out” dinner (approximately $20/person), including hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, corn, etc.
o Destination or route for our Friday Drive event
o Your interest for volunteering (see below for all the ways you can get involved).
For those who missed the February Meeting, this will be our last year to co-chair the Concours, so we’d love to have someone (person, couple, friends, etc.) work with us this year to “learn the ropes” for 2019. It’s fairly painless – and very rewarding! If you are organized, you can do this!
The Concours schedule of events will be similar to 2017’s, and we will follow the same general format of years past. As details firm up, we will keep you informed via blast emails, Litter Box articles, and meeting updates.
One item we talked about in the February Meeting was the need for VOLUNTEERS. The Concours is a production. It takes planning and execution on our part to bring you the fun and excitement you’ve come to expect. It also has many tasks that need to be organized to ensure a smooth weekend ahead. If we all chip in just a couple of hours each, everyone will benefit. The following are the positions and activities you can choose to help with:
ü Registration / Welcome Committee – short 2-hour shifts of 1-2 people each would be awesome
o Thursday 3-5pm
o Friday 9-11am
o Friday 1-3pm
o Friday 3-5pm
o Saturday 8-10am
ü Field Masters – 2-4 people for each of these would work well
o Setup/Layout the Field – Friday 3-5pm
o Judged and Display Car Parking – Saturday 8-10am
ü Photographers
o Informal photos, taken of folks having fun, emailed/shared with Awards Presentation Lead:
o Formal photos, taken of all judged vehicles with owners, for the formal Awards Presentation
ü Judges / Runners / Scorers / Scrutineers
o Please contact ED HOWEY directly for these positions (DEH1001@comporium.net)
o Judges training to be held at the March 17th CJC meeting
ü Silent Auction
o The team will need both volunteers and donations!
o Donations can include new or used items, crafts, gift cards and certificates for services, etc.
ü Friday Night Guest Speaker
o In 2017, we hosted an evening with Joe Pepitone, who creates automotive portraits, and has been featured in Hemmings Classic Car Magazine. (www.pepitonecreativeservices.com/Auto/portfolio.html)
o We need an engaging speaker, for a 30 to 45-minute presentation related to the industry, to the brand, or somehow engaging enough for our participants to enjoy.
o May include a video, or presentation, or other media
ü Fund-Raising
o Reminder that this is our main fundraising effort for our end-of-year donation to the USO of NC
o We try to keep the pricing reasonable for attendees, though our costs go up each year.
o We look to our Sponsors and Advertisers, amongst others, to help offset costs.
Richard Lloyd-Roberts has graciously agreed to once again create and present the Winners slideshow, to be shown at the Awards Presentation, held Saturday evening after dinner (approximately 8pm).
Please email us today with the position you’d love to help with – CarolinaJagMan@carolina.rr.com . We look forward to working with you – in some capacity – to produce an exciting and rewarding Concours for all!
